The 500 Simpsons
Already the longest-running animated program and prime-time entertainment show in TV history, The Simpsons was just renewed for its 23rd season this morning, which will take the show through its landmark 500th episode — leaving it third behind Gunsmoke (635) and Lassie (588) as the prime-time show with the most episodes ever produced. The renewal means The Simpsons will be on the air at least through spring of 2012, though producer Al Jean seems confident it will continue well beyond that, and is already planning episodes for a 24th season, where something happens.
