Hub Goes Renegades On Joes

G.I. Joe Renegades, a new animated series that reboots the original G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, will premiere on the The Hub on Thanksgiving weekend. Two making-of specials, featuring Renegades and Transformers Prime will lead into the first two episodes on Friday, November 26th.

Cartoon Network Breaths Fire

Firebreather, the CGI movie based on the Phil Hester/Andy Kuhn Image comic (see “Cartoon Network’s Future”), will premiere on Cartoon Network on Wednesday, November 24th at 7 p.m. ET. It’s directed by Peter Chung of Aeon Flux fame. The film will tell the story of a boy in high school who’s torn between the two worlds represented by his mother (a human) and his father (a 120-foot, fire-breathing Kaiju).

Peter's Uncle Martin

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Sheen (noted actor and father of Emilio and Charlie) is in talks to play Uncle Ben in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot by director Marcus Webb, replacing elderly Mickey Rourke impersonator Cliff Robertson from the first film.

Thanksgiving On Cybertron

The Hub, the new channel formed by Discovery Kids and Hasbro will launch Transformers: Prime, a five-episode CGI animated miniseries, Thanksgiving weekend. The programming event will kick off Friday night (November 26th) with a special episode of Hubworld, a weekly pop culture magazine will focus on Transformers: Prime. Hubworld will be follow-ed by a making-of special, and then the first two episodes of the series. The full miniseries will then air on consecutive evenings beginning the following Monday, November 29th. Characters will include Autobots Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Decepticon Megatron, and new human characters.

Rise in the Knight

Director Christopher Nolan has begun revealing details on Batman 3, which starts shooting early next year. The title will be The Dark Knight Rises, and the villain will not be the Riddler, he told the L.A. Times Hero Complex blog. Nolan also revealed that the film will be shot with high def cameras with plans for an Imax release, and will not be 3D.

What Caprica Should Have Been in the First Place

Syfy has greenlit a two-hour pilot for a third Battlestar Galactica series from executive producer David Eick, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. The new storyline will take place between the events in Caprica and the core Battlestar Galactica series, in the 10th year of the first Cylon War. It follows the adventures of the very young William Adama, a newly graduated pilot recently assigned to the Galactica. “Blood & Chrome will… return us to the authentic relentless depiction of combat and the agony and ecstasy of human-Cylon war, which was the hallmark of Battlestar Galactica’s early seasons,” Eick said of the new series.

The Rocky Horror Picture Remake

A remake of the cult hit movie Rocky Horror Picture Show is being developed by Fox 2000, with Glee creator Ryan Murphy one possibility to direct, according to Deadline Hollywood. Glee is running a Rocky Horror episode in which the cast performs the well-known Time Warp number next week. Rocky Horror, which was originally released in 1975, is still playing in midnight shows in some locales, and has a devoted fan following. It also was a merchandise driver, with a range of products appealing to those for whom the film’s edgy take on Frankenstein was a badge of hipness.

Disney Buys More Marvel

Disney has bought the distribution rights to The Avengers and Iron Man 3 from Paramount, effectively ending Paramount’s distribution deal for Marvel-produced movies early. The price was $115 million, an advance that could go up depending on the take from the two films. Paramount will distribute next year’s Captain America and Thor movies as planned, and will continue to have rights to Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 2. The pay TV deal for The Avengers will remain with Epix under Paramount’s existing arrangement. Disney Chairman Rich Ross said of the new arrangement, “Disney will… leverage these two highly-anticipated films across the multiple global platforms of the Walt Disney Company,” which we interpret to mean that Disney will now be able to double- and triple-dip on these films using Disney-owned channels, rather than just getting a fee from Paramount. Iron Man 3 has now been given a release date of May 13, 2013. Avengers is set for May 4, 2012.
