Casting Iron

Iron Man 3 has put out a bit of casting news as the Avengers movie gets closer. Everyone knows by now that Ben Kingsley will be playing the big bad - who will NOT be the. Also, Guy Pearce is signed to play Aldrich Killian - a minor character from the Iron Man comic who is a catalyst for what may be the storyline for the movie.

Casting Sin

In an interview with MTV News, Robert Rodriguez confirmed that he was in talks with Mickey Rourke and Rosario Dawson about reprising their roles in the long over due Sin City sequel which is set to start shooting in Summer 2012. Frank Miller will be returning as co-director and both say they will start casting non-recurring characters in the next few weeks.

The Unbeatable Games

It seems The Hunger Games is one movie to be rekonned with as it took another weekend at the top of the Box Office earnings.  This will be the 4th weekend it took top spot, adding 21 million dollars to its earning making a total domestic gross of  $337 Million (with a total worldwide gross of 531 million) as of 4/16/2012.  Second place were the Three Stooges (for a gross of $17 million) - no clue why, nothing in the commercial reaked of anything special.   The standout movie, The Cabin in the Woods, made it to 3rd place taking in 15 million domestic (no reports on oversea numbers yet.)   Rounding out the Top 5 was Titanic 3D (raking in another 12 million - because. . .again, honestly no clue on that one - people like the movie, go figure) with American Reunion last with a who 10 million under it's belt.

Sabrina Can Be a Real. . .Witch

One has to wonder if the thinking was this:  "The Smurf's got a movie, why not Sabrina" combined with "Hey, Super Heroes make money - aren't witches Super Heroes - so make Sabrina the Teenage Witch a Super Hero."   This is to say that the Archie Comics character that had a few side stories in the anicent Saturday Morning cartoon, or the button cute character immortalized by young people and older perverts of the time played by Melissa Jone Hart is getting the big screen treatment.  Instead of being a comedy (because the Bewitched movie showed flim makers the error of that way), it's going Super Hero and will be. as pretitious jackasses from Hollywood would say, edgy.  According to places on the internet that report these things they are going to retool the story to make her a super hero coming to terms with her powers, in the vain of Dark Knight or Spider-Man.  (Just be glad they didn't say Punisher War Journal.) The character will get an origin story, probably a lackluster villian and even a love interest - who will be Sabastian the talking cat  - who, in the movie, will be a prince of someplace transformed.  (Actually, you CAN make this stuff up, unfortunately we're not this time.)  I think at times like these we need the severed head of Benicio Del Toro ala Sin City, looking at the execs planing this and saying "You're making a mistake!"  How much do you want to bet they get a cast member of Secret Circle to play Sabrina?  Any takers?

A Game of Ratings

It seems that Game of Thrones 2nd season is kicking much ass and taking no prisoner in the ratings department.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first season Game of Thrones premiere earned a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49, while the premiere of season 2 managed a 1.4 in the same demo.  At this point ratings for the second season Game of Thrones are now 50% above those for season one. After posting its best ratings ever for the premiere episode of Season 2, HBO’s Game of Thrones managed to hold an amazing 97% of that audience for the second episode of its sophomore season.  The initial showing of the show’s second season premiere garnered a series best audience of 3.9 million viewers.  What makes this really most excellent is that we're talking about a pay cable channel (HBO), a series that only has 13 episodes and viewers who had to wait a whole year to pick up on where the story left off.  So it's no understatement that HBO has another bonifide mega-hit under their belts.   Will their be a third season?  Really?  Does anyone have to ask?

Jennifer's Lucky Breaks or Huge Conflict.

X-Men first class grossed $354 million bucks before it left the box office, the Hunger Games is currently at $378 million and climbing (as of this date it's in it's third week).  Anyone with half a brain knows that there will be a sequel to both movies, considering the latter is adapted from a highly popular trilogy and X-Men can go on as long as movie studios have dollar signs dancing in their heads.   This means Jennifer Lawerence should be consider pretty lucky - because she is a main-stay of both movie, being the star of Hunger Games and Mystic in X-Men: First Class.  Fox has announced it's ready to shoot the sequal to X-Men first class, how ever the adaptation of the next book in the Hunger Games series, Catching Fire, has to be on the way - so is this a lucky break for the young actress or one hell of a scheduling conflict.   Can't wait to see how this pans out.

Angry Animation

Rovio's Angry Bird is getting the animation treatment.  (Raise your hands if you did not see that one coming.  Now go back to the cave you've been living in for the past 20 years.)  A feature length animated movie is in the works but before that happen they are going to produce 52 three minute shorts - most likely available on a smart device near you.  Angry Birds, for those cave living peeps who raised their hands earlier, is the game that got over 12 million downloads when it was first introduce to everyone's smart devices and has numerous sequels, walkthroughs, guide and even a so-so comedy trailer on Youtube.  If you haven't played or heard of it yet you either need to give up that 2002 Blackberry (these days that's like still owning a black & white TV with antenna reception) or go live in that cave with those three people who raised their hands.

Munster Reboot

The NBC remake of the Munsters is going full steam ahead and over the past few weeks plenty of news has come out about it.   When it was announced pretty much everyone did a collective eye-roll but as time goes on certain elements of the upcoming show may make some turn around on their negative opinions of the upcoming remake. 

Eddie Izzard

First of all Brian Fuller is writing and producing, which is one of the things that makes us at the Hideout believe there may be some hope for the show.  While most of his shows may not be the successes that a LOST or NCIS may be, but they have been some pretty fun and imaginative stuff.  If anyone was born to remake Munsters second (would love to see his take on Addams Family first) it is Bryan Fuller.  Bryan says The Munsters “will NOT be a remake of the original,” but rather, a “strange hybrid of the popular comedy Modern Family and HBO’s True Blood.” In other words, dark and a little twisted, but with “a lot of heart and comedic elements.

Charity Wakefield



On board to direct the pilot will be Bryan Singer, who produces House MD, but directed Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, X-Men & X2, and, unfortunately, Superman Returns. 

So far two actors have been announced.  One will be Eddie Izzard, who will be taking the role of Grandpa Munster, and Brittish Actress Charity Wakefield of Sense & Sensibility.   Not a bad start from what sounded like a bad idea, let's hope it leads to a great finish.

Hit Girl Gets a Bloody Prom

Chloe Moretz who is kicking some acting ass, as far as the Hideout goes, has landed the role in the upcoming Carrie remake.  For those too young to remember, Carrie is the first novel by uber-famous Stephen King about a high school shy girl with a religous nut for a mother and constantly tormented at school.  (Today that description would be a high school special ed student with a Republican mother who is bullied at school - the more things change.)  Carrie finds out she possesses the power to move things with her mind which leads to a practical joke at the prom that turns into a massacre.  This might (will) piss off the "nothing should ever be remade) faction of the vocal web minority, but if they were going to redo this film at least they are using a good actress who is age appropriate for the role.  Lets hope they pick a kick-ass director - pun totally intended.
