Whedon the Avengers Director
Joss Whedon, creator of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel TV series, is reportedly in final negotiations to direct Marvel Studios all-star team-up movie The Avengers. It is still not clear exactly which Marvel superheroes will appear in The Avengers though it is generally thought that Iron Man, played by Robert Downey, Jr., Captain America, to be played by Chris Evans, and Thor to be played by Chris Hemsworth will be included. Production on The Avengers is expected to begin in early 2011 with the movie slated to debut in theaters on May 4th, 2012.
Ultimate XD
The first big news story to emerge out of the worldwide, TV-focused media conclave that is MIPTV is that Marvel Entertainment has greenlit a new Spider-Man animated series, which will be known, in a reference to the popular modernized chronicle of Spider-Man’s adventures that debuted in comic book form in 2000, as Ultimate Spider-Man. The new series will chronicle Peter Parker’s transition from a wise-cracking teen to a hero with a definite sense of responsibility who can hold his own with other Marvel superheroes who will join him in this series of animated adventures that is set to debut on the Disney XD Channel in the fall of 2011.
Role-Playing Leverage
In June Margaret Weis Productions is releasing Leverage: The Role-Playing Game (MSRP $44.99), a 192-page, full color hardcover. Based on the hit TNT cable series about modern-day Robin Hood Nathan Ford and his band of ex-criminals and con artists who use their talents to protect the victims of corporations, mobsters, and corrupt politicians, the Leverage RPG allows players to assume the roles of Nate, Elliot, Parker, Hardison and Sophie and use their combined skills to outwit the bad guys.
Tuesday Comics
At the Diamond Summit held on the eve of C2E2, the subject of changing “New Comics” day from Wednesday to Tuesday, which has become the standard new release day for DVDs, CDs, and book releases, came up. The majority of the retailers in the room appeared to be in favor of the change. Diamond’s V.P. of Sales and Marketing Roger Fletcher indicated that Diamond would be releasing more information on the impact of moving new release day to Tuesday and polling all its retailers to get a sense of what they want before discussing the matter with publishers in earnest.

Funny Star Wars
Lucasfilm Animation has announced a new Star Wars animated series that will take an irreverent look at the legendary science fiction franchise. Robot Chicken masterminds Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, who have already created two hilarious Star Wars parodies for their flagship series on Adult Swim, will join Daily Show scribe Brendan Hay in writing the new series.
Loading a Marvel RV
RTC23 is launching Marvel Comics character TVs/monitors using technology developed by parent Roundtable Concepts. In addition to decorative frames, the TVs use the 8 to 10 second delay when powering on to display an image featuring Marvel characters. The TVs are being offered in 22, 32, 42, and 55 HD LCD screen sizes and 40 and 46 LED HDTVs.
Dark Knight Returns Again. . .again
Frank Miller and Jim Lee will collaborate on a six-issue Batman miniseries, Dark Knight: Boy Wonder, launching in February 2011. The new series will pick up where the duo’s last collaboration, All Star Batman and Robin, left off after #10 was released in 2008. It will be “part of the overall Batman mythos and Dark Knight Returns universe Frank [Miller] started back in 1986,” according to Lee, and will fit into the Frank Miller Batman titles: The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, and The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

Adams & Batman
Neal Adams will write and pencil Batman: Odyssey, a 12-issue DC miniseries launching in July. Adams will also ink the first two issues; the other issues will feature “pairings with some of the most lauded artistic collaborators in the comic book industry. The storyline has Batman facing a series of challenges that push him to his limits, and the odyssey he seeks to free himself from the powerful and insidious direction his life has taken.
